Last week one of my
oldest dearest friends died unexpectedly which got me to thinking about a
Christians relationship with death. You see death to a Christian is a duel
edged sword we grieve because we miss the person but at the same time when we
know that someone is saved we celebrate because we know they have went home to
be with the Lord and that we will see them again.
You may ask how I
can be sure of this simple because Jesus himself promised in John 14:1-4, “Let not your heart be troubled; you
believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions;
if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to
Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and
the way you know.” And since I was there to witness when he
finally publicly accepted the Jesus as his savior I am assured that when he
closed his eyes here for the last time, he opened them in heaven and saw Jesus
standing there to welcome him home.
So yes, I do grieve
the loss of the companionship of my friend. Being able to call him and talk
with him and being able to spend time with him but at the same time I am glad
that he has went home to be with the Lord just as was promised in John 3:16-18,
“For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in
Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because
he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
I wrote this to
examine my feelings about my friend’s death, but I hope it can provide some
comfort to anyone who has experienced a recent loss. In closing to my friend, I
miss you brother, but I will see you soon enough so please save the seat next
to you at the Lords table. Thank you for the great times and the memories and
God’s speed to you. RIP Bryon.
